Nottingham Conferences Lands £1/4 Million Economic Boost To City
Nottingham Conferences has confirmed a conference win for Nottingham that will see an estimated £250,000* of economic impact for the city. The conference, branded Interflam, will bring over 350 experts in fire science and engineering from 25 destinations across the globe into the city.
“A delegate for a conference like this is expected to inject on average £247 per visit into the city, be it through accommodation, travel and through spend in bars, restaurants and local shops,” comments Kirstie Danzey, Marketing Manager at Nottingham Conferences. “This, added to the event production and overnight accommodation, represents a significant boost to the local economy.”
The win is a result of a collaborative effort within the city including Nottingham Conferences, Experience Nottingham and the local hotels and restaurants. The event will utilise the main areas of the Nottingham Conferences’ portfolio including the East Midlands Conference Centre. On top of the city’s hotels the delegates will also be using accommodation on site in Cavendish Hall, a five minute walk from the conference centre on University Park.
“In previous years this conference has been held at the University of London and Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh,” continues Danzey. “It’s therefore a massive endorsement for the city that they have chosen Nottingham for 2010.”
Last year Nottingham Conferences, representing the University of Nottingham’s conference and events facilities, bought in business benefitting the local economy to the tune of £61.8 million* – a figure it is looking to build on by a further 2.5million in 2009.
